📸 Screo — Screenshots & Screen Recording for Mac, Kept Local
🚀 About the Project
Screo is a native macOS app for screenshots, screen recording and annotation — a local alternative to CleanShot X. Capture an area, a window or the full screen with global shortcuts, mark it up, and copy, save or drag it wherever it needs to go. No account, no cloud, nothing to sign in to.
🛠️ What's Inside
- Area, window and full-screen capture via global shortcuts, with a quick-access tray (copy, save, drag out)
- Annotation: arrows, shapes, text, freehand, and real pixel blur / pixelate / blackout — not a cosmetic overlay
- Pin screenshots above all windows — resizable, adjustable opacity, click-through
- Screen recording (area, window or display) with click highlighting, a camera overlay, trimming and GIF export
- On-device OCR to pull text out of any capture
- Local, searchable history with a retention policy
🤔 How It's Different
I was paying a monthly subscription for a screenshot tool I used a dozen times a day, and every capture had a cloud account attached to it. Screo keeps the whole workflow on your Mac: no account, no cloud, and no analytics, tracking or crash reporting in the app. The only network call is purchase validation via RevenueCat.
📈 Tech Stack
Native macOS 14+, written in Swift and SwiftUI, as a universal build (Apple Silicon and Intel). Purchases through RevenueCat — 7-day free trial, then $19.99/year or $99 lifetime.
💳 Status
Live on the Mac App Store since September 2026.
